I feel extremely fortunate to be a part of the Wakefield Family! Both of my daughters also attended Wakefield Elementary and had a wonderful experience. School Psychologist
Hello,
I am Debbie Sowa and I am the school psychologist at Wakefield Elementary and Wakefield High School. I have worked in Wake County and at Wakefield Elementary since September of 2004. Many of you have seen me in your visits to Wakefield Elementary, but may be unaware of who I am or what exactly I do.
As a school psychologist, I am a jack of many trades. I am trained in the evaluation of students with disabilities; understanding learning styles and related teaching methods; data analysis; counseling; and consultation with teachers and parents on student learning, behavior, and emotional issues. I provide support to teachers, administration, and parents on ways to address student issues. I work closely with staff to develop and monitor intervention plans for individual students, groups, or whole classes. I also provide direct evaluation of students experiencing school difficulties, provide crisis response, and work closely with other student services personnel to assist students and families in need.
I am available as a consultant for parents if they have questions over how best to address their child’s learning or behavior challenges. Although, I am shared between two schools, I am committed to supporting students, staff and parents to positively develop our future generations. Please e-mail or call me if you would like to set up an appointment or chat about your child’s needs.
Sincerely,
Debbie Sowa, M.ED
